BAROON POCKET DAM

Public BBQ

The North Maleny side of Baroon Pocket Dam, a quiet picnic area above the lake with long views across the hinterland ranges. There are plenty of picnic tables in the shade, barbecues, a playground and a walking trail, and entry is free from sunrise to sunset. This side makes the better kayak launch, with a paddle of about a kilometre across to secluded inlet bays, though wind gets up quickly and can turn the middle choppy. Fishing brings up Australian bass and Mary River cod. Koalas, kangaroos and a great many birds are about. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk passes through, and Baroon Lookout over Obi Obi Gorge is close by. Take care swimming, as there are strong currents and submerged rocks.
